Our model of the Cri-cri is based on the MC-15 model (which is powered by 15hp JPX single cylinder 2 stroke engines), with a span of 1778mm it is actually 1:2.75 scale - slightly larger than 1/3 scale! The model is constructed from high quality balsa and light ply which ensures a strong, rigid - yet light weight airframe. Its engine nacelles are moulded fibreglass units. Its tricycle under carriage is very strong, featuring a steerable nose-wheel and painted fibreglass wheel pants. Possibly one of the most unusual scale models you will see this year - The Cri-Cri!
The full scale Cri-cri is tiny with a diminutive wingspan of 4.9 metres, in fact it is the worlds smallest human carrying twin engined aircraft. Designed by by French aeronautical engineer Michel Colomban and first flown in the 1970's, this unusual aircraft is still being built by amateur builders today.
The Cri-cri was designed from the outset to be a high performance aircraft, demonstrated by its fast 100 knot cruise speed and 1300ft/min climb rate, surprisingly the Cricri is strong enough to withstand limited aerobatics.
