The Mig-17 was a highly succesful transonic fighter that proved to be a wake up call for military strategists when initially encountered over the skies of Vietnam. The theory went in the 1960's that guns and dogfighting were obsolete, modern supersonic fighters armed with air to air missiles were simply not going to need guns but when the slower, agile Mig-17 was first engaged, it proved to be a lethal advisary courtesy of it's four cannon and genuine dog fighting ability.
This superb Mig-17 is uniquely constructed from EPO foam over-laid with a plastic veneer, the result is a superb scale finish with all the qualities of a composite model and all the benefits of EPO construction. In terms of specifications, again, this is no ordinary Plug and Fly model, the Mig features a pre-installed Alloy 12 blade DPS fan that delivers well over 1/1 thrust/weight with a 10s Lipoly! Also pre-installed are all servo's, all metal servoless retracts with sprung leg's, gear doors, servo operated air brakes, a quality HV ESC and a 5A HV UBEC! A comprehensive hardware kit, scale details such as pitot tubes, 2 different decal sheets representing the USSR or The People's Republic of China and a photo manual are also included.
This superb Mig is a joy to fly, there is no shortage of speed on tap but the Mig also offers excellent lower speed handling offering a wide flight envelope, it flies more like a performance composite model than a floaty foamy! The spilt flap arrangement is effective for landings and the pre-installed airbrakes & gear doors really add to the realism of this fantastic looking cold war warrior. The unique coating makes the Mig look like a much more expensive composite model both on the ground and in the air but it builds like a foamy and of course, no more hanger rash! If you are looking for a genuine high performance larger scale EDF jet but don't want to go through what can be a daunting task of building a composite model, this amazing Mig 17 is for you!
