The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter plane used by the RAF during WW2. It is undoubtedly one of the most famous aircraft ever built. Its graceful lines combined with outstanding handling qualities to produce a "dream plane" extremely fast, and in comparison to contemporary types was second to none. The Spitfire was produced in greater numbers than any other British war plane and was used by many of Britain's Allies. It has an elliptical wing cross section, which allowed it to fly at higher speeds than the Hurricane and other fighters of the time, which had a more traditional wing shape.
